An ebullient Mr Finchley is about to propose marriage to a lady he had rescued from mishap, when he is sent to Paris by his firm. There he manages to upset a boat, adopt a stray orphan and get himself kidnapped. The fine tangle he gets into takes some unravelling! Pretty poor follow-up on Mr. Finchley's Holiday, which had an original and whimsical charm which succeeded in escaping sentimentality. This, I fear me, does not succeed, the humor is a bit forced, the sentiment a bit obvious. Mix a solicitor's clerk, somewhat vague and overly insular, a widow who would like to change her name, a trip to Paris on business, a dreamy entomologist, an ex-show-girl.   Mr Finchley Goes to Paris.m What a lovely, gentle book. Delightfully written and a glance back at earlier life before technology overtook us. Have now read the rest of his books and followed Mr Finchley's escapades with great pleasure/5(43).
